Family Life/Sex Education Information
Family Life/Sex Education is recommended for all our 5th grade students at Highland School and is done in an age appropriate manner. However, the school district does recognize that families may choose to educate their children according to their own beliefs and timing. Please read below for information that is specifically taught to our students and when it is taught. Should you choose for the district not to educate your child in Family Life/Sex Education please read how to opt your child(ren) out of the program.

World Language
Students in grade 1, 2, and 3 are immersed in the Spanish Language, In grades 4, 5, and 6, students take French as their Foreign Language. In grade 7 students choose which Foreign Language they would like to continue with; Spanish or French.
Grade 6 Electives
Electives are implemented in grade 6 at the Highland School and run for 1 marking period each. Students entering grade 6 will choose 3 electives and administration will choose one to round out the student experience. The electives and course descriptions can be found below.
Financial Literacy
In Grades 3-5 Financial Literacy Standards are embedded in course work for both Core and Special Classes. Students are exposed to every Financial Lit. standard in the grade band.
Computers/Technology
Library
Library, with a certified Media Specialist, is offered grades 3-5. In grade 6 students have access to the Media Center during designated Study Halls.
