Welcome

Secondary Hearing Impaired Program

The Secondary Hearing Impaired Program (SHIP), a part of Bergen County Special Services, located in Midland Park High School educates hard of hearing and deaf students from middle school through high school. SHIP provides a unique program offering education for Auditory Oral students with mainstreamed classes or small group instruction depending on student needs. A number of placement options are available with the support of Computer-Assisted Real-time Translation (CART), and a full Child Study Team. The SHIP program offers small group instruction, mainstream, consultative, and collaborative opportunities, all of which are Individualized Education Plan (IEP)-driven. Students in the program are eligible to participate in school clubs and after-school sports. SHIP follows the Midland Park High School General Education curriculum and grading procedures.
The purpose of the SHIP program is to educate every hard of hearing or deaf student to become a productive member of an ever-changing multicultural society, utilizing the unique talents of the staff, parents, students, and community in a safe, caring, and sharing environment. Students are taught to succeed with, rather than in spite of, their hearing loss.
