HUDSON RIVER VALLEY SPLENDOR   FEE: $105

Wednesday, October 11

Today we experience the natural beauty and historical significance of the Hudson River Valley. Our first stop is a private tour of the Clermont Mansion located in Germantown, New York. This Home belonged to the prominent Livingston family and it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973. Mr.Livingston helped draft the Declaration of Independence and swore in George Washington as first president. The Home and Gardens remains in its 20th century original state reflecting the art, furnishings and gardens of the period. The sweeping views of the Hudson River Valley are breathtaking. We will then depart for lunch at the Rhinecliff Inn located on the magnificent Hudson River. We will enjoy an exquisitely prepared lunch in this historic boutique hotel circa 1854. Choice of entree: Herb-rubbed Roast Breast of chicken w/mushroom-Madeira Cream Sauce, Baked Atlantic Salmon w/Chive Beurre Blanc or Pennette Pasta w/Seasonal Vegetables,Caramelized Onions and Creme Fraiche. Dessert includes Vanilla Ice Cream w/warm Caramel Sauce and coffee or tea. Please indicate your lunch selection with registration. Our last stop is a docent tour of the Hudson River Maritime Museum located in Kingston, NY. This Waterfront Museum documents the historical importance of the region including artifacts, commerce, transportation, ship building including the 101 year old Rondout Lighthouse. Brunch at Griswold Inn

Sunday, October 15

Depart for Essex, Connecticut and start your day with an all you can eat brunch buffet, The Hunt Breakfast, at one of New England’s truly original country inns, The Griswold Inn. A dining convention started by the British when they occupied The Griswold Inn during the War of 1812, Hunt Breakfast remains a popular tradition today. After our hearty brunch depart for the historic 1892 Essex Station, where you’ll board vintage rail cars pulled by an authentic steam locomotive. The train meanders through the scenic country side to Deep River Landing, where you’re escorted onto the Becky Thatcher Riverboat. Aboard Becky’s 1-1/4 hour cruise along the Connecticut River, you’ll delight in breathtaking scenery and view historic landmarks such as Gillette Castle and Goodspeed Opera House. When Becky returns to Deep River Landing, the steam train welcomes you for the return trip to Essex Station. Bus departs Midland Park H.S. at 7:45 a.m. and returns approximately 7:15 p.m.

 

CHIHULY AT THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN          FEE: $94

Dale Chihuly is an American glass sculptor whose works are considered unique to the field of blown glass, moving it into the realm of large scale sculpture. His blown glass sculptures in brilliant colors compliment the gardens and the Haupt Conservatory, itself a work of glass art. Lilacs, dogwoods, peonies, and roses will delight the senses. We’ll take a guided tram tour across 250 exquisite acres. Lunch included at Anne & Tony’s in Bronx’s Little Italy. Walking tour; wear comfortable shoes. Shadows of the 60’s put on a fun-filled show singing the songs of the 4-Tops, The Temptations, and more!  Sing along and dance as you listen to this wonderful Motown Tribute at beautiful Villa Roma Resort, located in the heart of the Catskills. First, enjoy a delicious lunch which includes : Fruit Cup and Lentil Soup, choice of  London Broil, Chicken Marsala or Tilapia (indicate choice when registering) and Chef’s Surprise for Dessert.  Bus departs Faith Reformed Church at 8:45 a.m. and returns approximately 5:00 p.m.

 

THE BRONX - SHIP TO SHORE     FEE: $99

Thursday, October 19

See City Island, a little bit of New England in the Bronx, with quaint nineteenth century homes and view of Long Island Sound dotted with sailboats. Visit the City Island Historical and Nautical Museum with exhibits illustrating the history of the island that includes many America’s Cup yacht race champions.  Enjoy lunch at the Lobster Box restaurant (included) with a choice of 3 entrees, whole steamed lobster, Baked Filet of Salmon or Chicken Piccata.   Please indicate choice when registering.   Then we head to SUNY Maritime College at the tip of Throggs Neck to visit Fort Schuyler, an 1840’s fortification built to defend the back door to New York City.  Inside is the Museum of the Maritime Industry, filled with photographs, paintings, posters, ship’s models and objects relating the storied history of America’s clipper ships, freighters and passenger liners. Tour led by Lloyd Ultan, Bronx Borough Historian.  Bus departs Faith Reformed Church at 7:45 a.m. and returns approximately 5:30 p.m.

 

LONG ISLAND - TOWN TO TOWN (OYSTER BAY TO HUNTINGTON)        FEE: $89

Saturday, October 21

With a total of 13 towns, the LI Region is unique in diversity, history and mystery. Today we explore two of the towns. We meet ”LI’s most experienced tour guide” Carole Celiberti Lucca and head north to Town of Oyster Bay. Yes, Patriots and Loyalists lived here during the American Revolution.  We will visit Raynham Hall and hear about the spy ring and a love story of a spy and soldier. Enjoy a docent guided tour of this historic house spanning a few time periods of American history. We then ride along the north shore of LI with on board narration hearing more about the spy ring, whaling and science. We’ll continue our drive while passing Cold Spring Harbor, Main Street (once called Bedlam Street during whaling days) and head into Huntington’s Main Street. Free time here to explore the shops and restaurants (have lunch on your own).  Back on board our coach and enjoy viewing many of Huntington’s historic sites, including the Boulder that bears the name of the Patriot’s first military hero, Nathan Hale, the graveyard and more. Our last stop will be the Heckscher Museum of Art for a guided tour of the wonderful exhibits there and meet the man who knows all about hidden stories of Heckscher Park. Bus departs Midland Park H.S. at 7:45 a.m. and returns approximately 6:30 p.m.

 

 

REDISCOVER THE CULTURE AND HISTORY OF PHILADELPHIA                 FEE: $99

Thursday, October 26

Today we head to the architectural rich and historical City of Philadelphia. Our first stop will be the Philadelphia Museum of Art which is viewed as one of the most renowned Art Museums in the Country. Here you will find galleries of beauty and architectural achievements from the U.S. , Asia, Europe and Latin America. We will experience a private highlights tour and then have time on our own to explore the many diverse exhibits. Then its off to lunch at the Reading Terminal Food Market. The Reading Market is a multi-cultural food extravaganza! All types of luncheon options are available and you may also shop for Amish goodies to bring home. Last stop will be The Eastern State Penitentiary which at one time was the most famous and expensive prison in the U.S whose notorious guests included “Slick Willie Sutton.” and “Scarface” Al Capone. We will have a docent tour and then time on our own to visit additional exhibits and the unusual gift shop. A fascinating day in the City of Brotherly Love. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. CHRYSANTHEMUM FESTIVAL  AT LONGWOOD GARDENS                      FEE: $99

Saturday, October 28

Experience the best expression of the art of horticulture during Chrysanthemum Festival, showcasing the Asian tradition of cultivating chrysanthemums into artistic shapes.  Step inside the 4-acre Conservatory and discover more than 80,000 chrysanthemum blooms nurtured and trained into inspiring forms, including shields, spirals, cascades, balls, and even a 10-foot tall yellow chandelier. Be amazed by the Thousand Bloom Mum-featuring more than 1,500 perfectly arranged flowers-the largest of its kind grown outside of Asia. Also visit the historic Peirce-du Pont House, built in 1730 by Joshua Peirce, which now contains the Longwood Heritage Exhibit. A $15 dining card is included to purchase a meal in the Terrace Café, which offers a variety of specialty wraps, sandwiches and other delicious goodies. Thursday, November 2 

Join us as we experience this special historically significant part of Manhattan. Our first stop will be Temple Emanu-El located on Fifth Ave. This landmark Romanesque Revival building was built in 1845 and after several restorations was completed in 1929. It is the largest Reformed Synagogue in the World. We will be amazed as we are magically transported to Europe viewing the Tiffany Stain Glass Windows, majestic Ancient Jewish Art Work and three sets of hand sculptured bronze doors all historically explained during our private tour. A sense of peace and tranquility will surround us. We will then enjoy a sit-down lunch at Carmine’s, a neighborhood institution on the Upper West Side. Lunch menu includes: garlic bread, house salad, two types of Pasta, Chicken with lemon and butter on a bed of spinach, unlimited soft drinks and ice tea.Tiramisu dessert with coffee/tea. After a relaxing lunch we will head over to The American Museum of Natural History where we will be given a private highlights tour.  We will then have free time to enjoy the many wonderful exhibits on our own. You may also visit The Rose Center for Earth and Space without leaving the building. We will return home with a much greater appreciation for this unique part of NYC! Locust Grove Estate

Tuesday, November 14

Today we head to the Hudson Valley to visit the Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park, New York. Start the day with a 45 minute tour of the school conducted by the students. Next, enjoy lunch at Caterina de’Medici restaurant located on the CIA grounds. Your pre-selected 3 course meal will be: 1st course – Arugula Salad, 2nd course – Roasted Chicken Breast with Semolina Gnocchi and Glazed Carrots, Dessert – classic Tiramisu. We will end the day with a short drive to beautiful Locust Grove Estate which was originally established by Samuel Morse, inventor of the telegraph and Morse Code. We will take a guided tour through 25 rooms of the house with period-room settings and conclude with a self-guided tour of the exhibits and art galleries including telegraph equipment and paintings by Samuel Morse, as well as the beautifully landscaped gardens. Bus departs Faith Reformed Church at 8:00 a.m. and returns approximately 6:00 p.m.

 

WEST POINT HOLIDAY CONCERT/LUNCH at THAYER HOTEL       FEE: $88

The hotel tells the story of West Point and the Nation with museum pieces hanging throughout the hotel as well as having guest rooms that are dedicated to inspirational West Point graduates. Weaving the impact of West Point into America’s story are a broad cross-section of contributions in the hotels’ actual guest rooms dedicated to the likes of medal of honor recipients, an astronaut, the first woman West Point grad to achieve the rank of general officer, the first African-American graduate of West Point, ground-breaking physicians, captains of industry, and great military leaders.  Enjoy a magnificent lunch at the beautifully decorated Hotel Thayer, then enjoy the Yule extravaganza featuring the US Army Band and talented guests. Yuletide at Winterthur            fee: $79

Founded by Henry Francis duPont, Winterthur (pronounced “Winter-tour”) is the premier museum of American decorative arts, reflecting both early America and the duPont family’s life here.The Yuletide celebration at Winterthur is sure to get you into the holiday spirit by taking in the beauty of the holiday décor and the lights display. On display will be the delightful and exquisitely detailed dollhouse, a recent donation on view in the Galleries Stair Hall, where you can view the holidays through the eyes of children in the 19th and 20th centuries. Once we arrive, we head to the Café to enjoy lunch (on your own). After lunch we will take the tram from the visitor center for a garden tour and then onto the museum where we will take a 1 hour guided tour of the house where Henry Francis du Pont entertained his friends and family in grand style. After the tour you will have time on your own to see the other galleries and exhibits on display. Bus departs Faith Reformed Church at 8:15 a.m. and returns approximately 7:00 p.m.

 

SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL / Christmas Carol Sing - Newark           FEE $56

A tradition for 47 years, the Carol Sing, with choir, organ, brass, and two thousand participants in the candle lit cathedral, is an unforgettable experience. VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR        FEE: $119

Thursday, December 14

Join us today on a festive, holiday celebration. Our first stop will be the New York Botanical Gardens Holiday display which features both their annual miniature train show in addition to an amazing display of New York landmark buildings both past and present made of only natural materials. Then its on to a delicious lunch at Emilia’s, a Bronx Little Italy eatery.  Lunch will consist of a salad, side of pasta, fresh homemade bread, entree, dessert and coffee/tea. Please indicate your choice of salmon, chicken parmigiana, pork osso buco or eggplant parmigiana when registering. After lunch we will visit Lyndhurst, one of Hudson’s River’s most elegant high Victorian mansions, filled with fine quality furnishings and art and will be professionally decorated in opulent Gilded Age style for the holidays. We will be given a guided tour of the mansion and additional time to browse the gift shop for that special holiday gift. Our holiday adventure will definitely add to our Christmas spirit! RIVERSIDE CHURCH CHRISTMAS CAROL SING

The Riverside Church celebrates the beauty of the season through song.  The service of music of light combines carillon, organ, harp, bell ringers, and all of the choirs of the church.  It culminates in a ritual sharing of candlelight illuminating the Nave.  The nondenominational church, founded by John D. Rockefeller, is famous for its size and elaborate Neo Gothic architecture. First, enjoy a fabulous four course family style meal (11:30) at Carmine’s Uptown, highlighted by Caesar Salad, two Pastas, Salmon Oreganato, Eggplant Parmigiana, Chicken Marsala, and Tiramisu.
