Crochet is a beautiful craft that has been around for centuries. A fun, relaxing, and some might say meditative activity. You can create handmade hats, scarves, shawls, blankets, toys, and more, with just a hook and some yarn. This course is designed for beginners with little to no previous experience; you will learn about different yarns and hooks, basic stitches and techniques, how to crochet in rows and “in the round,” how to read patterns and where to find them. As we progress, we will learn some simple stitch combinations and other crochet techniques. Attendees will choose a project and purchase appropriate yarn. Tunisian Crochet is often described as a combination of knitting and crochet, but it is really more of a variation on crochet techniques, using one long hook. Tunisian crochet stitches and fabrics can look considerably different from regular crochet, and it is a great way to expand into unique options beyond the standard. We will learn a variety of Tunisian stitches/techniques and will choose a project to make. Students in this course should already be comfortable with basic crochet techniques. If you are new to the craft, we recommend starting with Beginner Crochet. There is a $10 material fee for a 14 Tunisian/afghan hook, provided at first class. Bring to class: #4/worsted practice yarn.

OIL PAINTING FOR BEGINNERS/ADVANCED STUDENTS FEE: $195

Have you ever thought about learning to paint in oils? Or did you paint in oils a while ago and you want to get back to it? This is the class for you! This class combines beginners with experienced artists. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of oil painting while more experienced artists “brush up” their skills learning more advanced techniques. Beginners and first time painters in our class work on structured projects tailored to students’ experience. Everyone paints at their own level and at their own speed. The focus is on individual style. On the first night of class we will go over materials. The instructor will email a materials list prior to the first class. If you have any old oil painting supplies please have them available, regardless of their age. Our ongoing students continue working on their paintings. Beginners along with non-beginners are welcome. Lessons on color, value and techniques will be taught. A demonstration will be given at each class for both levels. Subject matter changes each session, and may include flowers, landscape, portraits, figures or still life. Supply list will be emailed prior to the start of class.
